Dubai Municipality launches Health and Safety Week event

Dubai: April 28 marked the commencement of Dubai Municipality’s Health and Safety Week, coinciding with World Workplace Health and Safety Day annually. This event, attended by both public and private sectors, aims to advocate for best practices and knowledge exchange in health, safety, and accident prevention to foster a secure work environment.

Dubai Municipality continually evaluates its occupational health and safety initiatives to devise innovative solutions and adhere to global standards while addressing regional needs. The Municipality remains dedicated to upholding operational excellence, safeguarding public health, and advancing broader objectives such as resilience, adaptability, and environmental conservation.

Presently, the Municipality leads safety efforts through programs like the Occupational Health and Safety Control Program and the Environmental Health Control Program. It also oversees a specialized Health and Safety Management division for Labor Buildings, focusing on climate change mitigation, along with a comprehensive awareness program utilizing multilingual social media campaigns.

Dr. Naseem Rafie, Acting CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Health and Safety Department, emphasized the weeklong event’s role in showcasing ongoing endeavors to establish an integrated preventive system for occupational health and safety compliance across all sectors.

She elaborated on the preventive nature of occupational safety and health management systems, aiming to proactively manage risks and protect human capital from workplace hazards while ensuring worker safety.

Dr. Naseem underscored Dubai Municipality’s utilization of advanced safety management systems nationwide, coupled with meticulous procedures and policies to ensure employee and recipient safety. The event underscores their commitment to sustainable health and environmental practices, aligning with Dubai’s aspiration to be a premier destination for well-being and sustainability.

Scheduled from April 29th to May 2nd, 2024, the Health and Safety Week will feature sessions on climate change’s impact, future trends, best practices, first aid workshops, and critical risk assessments. An accompanying exhibition will provide medical examinations, while awareness workshops will focus on safety protocols and workers’ rights.

Key government bodies including the International Labour Organization, Dubai Health Authority, and private entities such as SaveFast Fire and Safety LLC, SERCO, and medical institutions will participate, reflecting a collective effort towards promoting safety and well-being in Dubai.
