Abu Dhabi: The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) marked International Girls in ICT Day, aligning with the International Telecommunication Union’s mission to empower women in the ICT sector. This year’s focus, “Leadership,” aimed to inspire women to pursue influential roles.

TDRA, alongside the Youth Advisory Council for Sustainable Development Goals, organized the event at its Dubai office. Activities aimed to educate girls about ICT opportunities and encourage them to enter related fields.

Mohammed Al Ramsi, TDRA Deputy Director-General, praised UAE’s vibrant ICT sector, highlighting women’s significant contributions. Notably, nearly half of ICT graduates are female, and women hold prominent positions in the Cabinet.

Shatha Al Hashmi emphasized Emirati women’s role in advancing development goals. Panel discussions like “Behind Every Robot, an Ambitious Woman” showcased successful women like Yasmin Al Enazi, co-founder of Women in AI Global Community.

The ceremony underscored UAE’s leadership in gender equality, ranking first regionally and seventh globally in the gender equality index. Women constitute a substantial portion of AI program graduates and are prominent in the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, notably comprising 80% of the Hope Probe mission’s scientific team.

Female participation in scientific disciplines is rising, with 56% of graduates in STEM majors being women. Moreover, women make up 67% of participants in the National Science and Technology Exhibition, showcasing their increasing involvement in innovation.

What is the meaning of ICT Day?
The day is dedicated to encouraging girls and young women to pursue careers in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The day also aims to address the gender gap in the tech industry and inspire girls to achieve their full potential in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
