Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), a leading hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE known for advanced care, achieved a significant milestone by successfully removing an unusually large ovarian tumor. The tumor, weighing 30.5kg, was rare for its size, but Dr. Muhieddine Seoud and the OB-GYN surgical team skillfully completed the 1.5-hour operation at SSMC.

The patient, a 63-year-old limousine driver, had suffered severe abdominal pain for over three years before seeking help at SSMC’s Emergency Department (ED) on March 23. Upon admission, the patient was promptly referred to SSMC’s OB-GYN specialists and underwent surgery the same day.

Dr. Seoud, the treating consultant physician at SSMC, expressed the rarity of such cases in the region. The emergency department and OB-GYN specialists quickly identified the need for urgent surgery due to the patient’s abnormal abdominal distension caused by the tumor.

The surgery, performed without complications, involved removing the tumor entirely. Dr. Seoud praised the cooperation of the medical team and highlighted the patient’s smooth recovery process, expected to take three weeks.

Virginia Asuncion, the patient, expressed her gratitude for the care received at SSMC, commending the professionalism and support of the medical staff. Dr. Abdulqader Almessabi, the acting chief medical officer, emphasized SSMC’s commitment to patient-centered care, combining advanced medical technology with personalized services.

SSMC aims to provide holistic care, addressing individual needs and preferences with a team of expert specialists and the latest medical advancements. Their dedication to research, education, and innovative practices ensures patients receive world-class treatment and support throughout their healthcare journey.
