DEWA secures 2024 Global Water Awards’ Smart Water Project of the Year

Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has secured the Smart Water Project of the Year Award 2024 at the esteemed Global Water Awards, marking another significant milestone in its track record of success. The award recognizes DEWA’s pioneering Hydro Insight system, the world’s first fully automated system developed by a water utility.

DEWA engineered the Hydro Insight system internally, leveraging cutting-edge AI and data science technologies developed in-house for smart grid automation and management. This groundbreaking system enables DEWA to monitor over 1 million smart meters, enhancing visibility across various areas, including water meter anomalies. By drastically reducing meter anomaly detection time from 30 days to just 1 hour, the system has facilitated the conservation of 214 million gallons of water.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, expressed his delight at the prestigious international recognition, emphasizing that the award acknowledges one of the world’s most extensive and advanced infrastructure projects for smart water meters.

With over 1 million smart water meters installed, DEWA continues to uphold the highest standards of availability, reliability, sustainability, and quality in service delivery.

Abdullah Obaidullah, Executive Vice President of Water & Civil at DEWA, underscored DEWA’s exceptional internal capabilities in equipping and maintaining advanced infrastructure for smart water meters. Through innovative and automated monitoring systems, DEWA has achieved significant savings and resolved numerous cases of meter malfunctions and overloads. Additionally, DEWA’s proactive approach has prevented water wastage, saving billions of gallons of water and substantial financial resources.
