Dubai: Today, H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), officially opened the Expo 2020 Dubai Museum at Expo City Dubai.

This inaugural event, coinciding with International Museum Day, emphasizes the pivotal role of museums as vibrant educational centers, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. By enriching Dubai’s dynamic museum sector, the museum reaffirms the city’s position as a leader in cultural innovation on local, regional, and international scales.

Sheikha Latifa highlighted Expo 2020 Dubai as a testament to Dubai’s global leadership in innovation and its commitment to future readiness.

The ceremony showcased the UAE’s rich traditions and heritage to a global audience, demonstrating unity in shaping a promising future. It also celebrated human potential, encouraging global engagement and fostering connections worldwide while inspiring future progress, she added.

Sheikha Latifa said, “Dubai, through the Expo 2020 Dubai Museum, continues its pivotal role in activating a sustainable intellectual and cultural movement, by documenting the essence of our historic world exhibition and preserving those memories for future generations. The Expo 2020 Dubai Museum takes its place among a group of cultural destinations and experiences that reflect the importance of Expo City Dubai as a hub for culture and learning, enhancing Dubai’s position as a creative and sustainable global city for culture, heritage, arts and literature, empowering these sectors and helping develop innovative creative projects and initiatives to embody Dubai’s ambitious vision in line with the aspirations of its leadership.”

Following the opening ceremony, Expo City hosted a private event at the Expo 2020 Dubai Museum, aligning with the themes of the World Expo. During this gathering, thought leaders explored sustainability, technology, and culture, discussing how societies can learn from the past to advance into the future.

The museum will officially welcome the public on Saturday, 18th May, coinciding with International Museum Day. Additionally, Dubai is preparing to host the International Council of Museums (ICOM) General Conference in 2025, themed ‘The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,’ further solidifying the UAE’s reputation as a cultural, creative, and innovative capital.

Expo City Dubai and Dubai Culture have forged a dynamic partnership, focusing on enhancing the emirate’s arts and culture scene. This collaboration aims to empower creatives and young talent, spotlight Emirati heritage, and reinforce the UAE’s global status as a creative hub.
