Brussels: The European Commission has unveiled a fresh aid shipment transporting EU provisions from Cyprus to Gaza via the Maritime Corridor and the recently constructed US pier.
Utilizing the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Romania is dispatching over 88,000 cans of food to Palestinians in need, with the Commission covering the associated transportation costs.
Furthermore, an EU logistics hub has been established in Cyprus to facilitate the continued delivery of aid to Gaza.
The EU’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre maintains close coordination with Member States and humanitarian partners to facilitate offers of assistance through the Maritime Corridor, aiming to bolster aid provisions.
Emphasizing that the maritime corridor supplements rather than replaces existing land routes to Gaza, such as through the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings, the EU urged Israel to grant sustained access through alternative routes like the Erez crossing and the port of Ashdod.
