DEWA power outage record reaches just 0.82 minutes annually, showcasing Dubai’s global leadership in reliable electricity services.

DUBAI: DEWA power outage record has reached a new global milestone, with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority reporting just 0.82 minutes of electricity disruption per customer annually. This achievement sets a new world record.

It surpasses DEWA’s previous record of 0.94 minutes in 2024, marking an improvement of around 13 per cent. The figure is significantly lower than the average of about 15 minutes recorded by leading utility providers in Europe. The DEWA power outage record highlights the impact of advanced technology.

Officials say artificial intelligence and smart grid systems are at the core of this success, enabling faster fault detection and restoration. These systems operate around the clock, often without human intervention, ensuring seamless service.

Here is what makes the difference

The Automatic Smart Grid Restoration System can identify faults, isolate them and restore electricity automatically. This reduces downtime and improves reliability across the network. The DEWA power outage record is also part of a broader strategy.

Dubai is investing AED7 billion in its smart grid infrastructure through 2035, aiming to enhance efficiency, reduce losses and improve energy management. These efforts align with long-term plans such as the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda.

Over the years, progress has been remarkable

Power outage duration has dropped from 6.88 minutes in 2012 to just 0.82 minutes today, reflecting continuous innovation and investment. The DEWA power outage record reinforces Dubai’s position as a global leader in infrastructure reliability and smart city development.
