SHANGHAI: More than 100 new car models have been unveiled at the 21st Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, known as Auto Shanghai 2025, which kicked off this week in east China’s bustling automotive capital.
Held under the theme “Embracing Innovation, Empowering the Future”, the event has drawn close to 1,000 companies from 26 countries and regions, making it the largest edition in the auto show’s history.
Global auto giants like Volkswagen, BMW, and Audi showcased their latest offerings alongside Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) leaders, including BYD, Nio’s sub-brand ONVO, Firefly, and Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance. These launches mark a strong push from both international and local manufacturers to redefine mobility through innovation.
The spotlight wasn’t just on shiny new vehicles. Smart technology is driving the future of mobility, quite literally. AI-assisted driving systems and cutting-edge electric vehicle batteries made headlines at the show. Xpeng, a major Chinese EV maker, stunned visitors with its humanoid robot, IRON, and smart battery systems.
The impressive turnout comes on the heels of China’s record-breaking auto production and sales in 2024, which crossed 31 million units—cementing its position as a global automotive powerhouse.
Auto Shanghai 2025 is not just a display of cars, but a showcase of how tech and transport are merging. From autonomous features to AI-enhanced powertrains, the event reveals what the future of driving could look like.
With innovation taking the front seat, and NEVs rapidly gaining ground, Auto Shanghai is setting the pace for global mobility trends in 2025 and beyond.
