Davos: India has unveiled the “Alliance for Global Good, Gender Equity, and Equality,” a significant initiative launched at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The Ministry of Women and Child Development in India, serving as the nodal Ministry for this global alliance, stated that the idea for this initiative emerged from the concluding Declaration of the Group of Twenty (G20) meeting in September. The initiative aligns with India’s enduring commitment to promoting women-led development.

The primary goal of this alliance is to bring together global best practices, facilitate knowledge sharing, and attract investments in key areas such as women’s health, education, and enterprise. The Ministry emphasized that the Alliance aims to advance the commitments of G20 for the greater global community, building on the work of its Engagement Group and initiatives under the G20 framework, including the Business 20, Women 20, and G20 EMPOWER.

India’s Minister of Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, Smriti Zubin Irani, introduced the launch at the WEF, where she engaged with leaders, including Bahrain’s Minister for Sustainable Development, Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif. Irani is leading the Indian delegation at the WEF.

The Alliance has garnered support from major global conglomerates, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the WEF, which will serve as its “Network Partner.” The “Institutional Partner” for the Alliance is Invest India, the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of the Indian government.

By fostering collaboration, sharing expertise, and attracting investments, the Alliance for Global Good, Gender Equity, and Equality aims to make a meaningful impact on women’s empowerment and development globally. The initiative represents a tangible step towards fulfilling the commitments outlined in the G20 framework and promoting a more inclusive and equitable global society.
