Dubai: RTA has approved a project to build lanes exclusively for buses and taxis, stretching 13.1 km across six main streets: Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, 2nd of December, Al Satwa, Al Nahda, Omar bin Al Khattab, and Naif Streets. This initiative, set to be finished between 2025 and 2027, aims to expand Dubai’s dedicated bus lanes to 20.1 km.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RTA, emphasized the significance of these lanes in promoting the use of public transport over private vehicles, aligning with global transportation strategies.

The project aims to reduce travel times, ensure adherence to bus schedules, increase public transport usage, and improve taxi services efficiency. Additionally, it targets cost reduction, better integration of transportation modes, and emission reduction, all contributing to Dubai’s strategic goals of integration, well-being, and public transport satisfaction.

The extension of these lanes is projected to significantly decrease bus travel times during peak hours, with reductions ranging from 24% to 59%. Moreover, bus arrival times on these routes are expected to improve by 28% to 56%. These improvements are particularly notable on Naif Street, Al Satwa Road, Omar Bin Al Khattab Street, and Al Nahda Street.

Al Tayer highlighted the success of previous phases, where dedicated lanes led to a notable reduction in bus trip times, improving overall satisfaction among riders and drivers.

Previously, RTA introduced dedicated lanes covering 7 km, including a combined bus and taxi lane on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, and additional lanes on Naif Street, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, and Al Ghubaiba Road.
