RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil will welcome world leaders as it hosts the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira confirmed. This gathering of emerging economies—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—will see key discussions on global cooperation and development.
Taking over the BRICS presidency on January 1, Brazil is actively shaping the agenda, with working groups preparing crucial topics for the summit. The announcement follows a meeting between Vieira and Rio’s Mayor Eduardo Paes, reaffirming the city’s role as a hub for international diplomacy. Notably, Rio successfully hosted the G20 Leaders’ Summit last November.
“We will welcome leaders from 20 countries, including BRICS members and partners, to discuss economic development, cooperation, and improving living standards,” Vieira stated. “Rio de Janeiro will once again be at the heart of global decision-making.”
Mayor Paes emphasised the event’s significance, highlighting its potential to strengthen international ties, boost tourism, and foster trade and cultural exchanges. A dedicated commission has been established to ensure seamless organisation.
This summit comes at a crucial time for BRICS, as member nations seek greater influence in global governance and explore financial alternatives to Western-dominated institutions. Discussions are expected to focus on trade policies, economic collaboration, and expanding partnerships with other emerging markets.
With Rio de Janeiro set to host world leaders, the event is not just a diplomatic milestone but also an opportunity to showcase Brazil’s growing role in global affairs.
