Cricket legend Virat Kohli invests in the World Bowling League, supporting its mission to revolutionise bowling as a global sport.
Dubai: Virat Kohli investment in the World Bowling League (WBL) marks a bold shift in the sport’s trajectory, aligning a cricket legend with a global push to reinvent bowling. Long celebrated in pop culture and with over 100 million enthusiasts, bowling is being reimagined for a new generation through the WBL.
The league, backed by Adi K. Mishra of League Sports Co., is modernising the sport with mixed-gender teams, global venues, and high-energy competition formats. With MLB champion Mookie Betts’ Team OMG already on board, the WBL aims to push bowling into the mainstream entertainment arena.
Kohli, a towering sports figure with the third-highest Instagram following after Ronaldo and Messi, brings not just star power but personal passion. “I started bowling when I was 11 years old,” Kohli said. “It’s popular but underappreciated as a business. Adi’s vision to redefine bowling is unique.” Having collaborated with Mishra previously on Team Blue Rising in the E1 Series, Kohli’s involvement signals strong investor confidence.
His entry underlines WBL’s serious ambition to globalise the sport. With innovative gameplay, dynamic team structures, and advanced bowling technology—including custom lanes and 3D-printed oil patterns—the league is set to engage a wider audience.
Mishra added, “When I learned Virat is also a bowler, it clicked. His drive mirrors ours. Bowling has an untapped, rich history, and it’s time to awaken this sleeping giant.”
WBL’s rise coincides with growing global demand for diversified sports entertainment. As the league prepares to announce more franchises, each with a unique identity, Kohli’s backing positions the sport for commercial and cultural resurgence.
With celebrity influence, cutting-edge innovation, and a nostalgic yet refreshed sport, the WBL is not just a league—it’s a movement.
