The UAE has ranked first in the Arab world and 21st globally in the World Happiness Report 2026, scoring 6.8 points across key indicators including personal freedom, GDP per capita, and generosity among 147 countries evaluated.

DUBAI: Even amid one of the most turbulent periods the region has seen in years, the UAE has something worth celebrating. The country has been ranked the happiest nation in the Arab world and 21st globally in the World Happiness Report 2026, issued by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and supported by Gallup World Poll data.

Out of 147 countries evaluated, the UAE scored 6.8 points on the index, placing it ahead of several leading global economies and firmly at the top of the Arab world. The rankings are based on a comprehensive set of criteria including GDP per capita, life expectancy, personal freedom, generosity, social support, and levels of corruption in government and business.

Dig into the sub-indicators and the picture gets even more impressive. The UAE ranked fourth globally in citizens’ freedom to make life choices, a reflection of the country’s commitment to personal liberty and an inclusive environment that welcomes people from every corner of the world. On GDP per capita, the UAE came in eighth globally at $70,000, underlining the economic strength that underpins quality of life for residents across the country.

The UAE also ranked 19th globally in generosity, a measure of the charitable contributions made by its residents, and 30th in life expectancy, reflecting the quality of healthcare and living standards available in the country.

For a nation that has spent decades deliberately building a society where people from over 200 nationalities can live, work, and thrive, this ranking is not a surprise. It is a validation.

In a world where uncertainty is rising, the UAE’s position in the global happiness rankings sends a quiet but powerful message: getting the foundations right, safety, prosperity, freedom, and community, matters more than anything else.
