Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed marked International Volunteer Day by affirming volunteerism as a core part of the UAE’s humanitarian values and global outreach.

AL DHAFRA: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has reaffirmed that volunteerism is a key pillar of the UAE’s humanitarian and cultural vision. His statement came in observance of International Volunteer Day, marked globally on 5 December.

Sheikh Hamdan praised the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for fostering a national spirit of volunteerism, which has enabled the UAE to secure leading global positions in humanitarian aid and volunteer engagement.

He noted that Emirati volunteers embody the UAE’s values of peace, generosity and solidarity, and serve as true ambassadors of the nation in crisis zones and communities around the world. Their efforts, he said, have helped deepen the roots of humanitarianism and inspired future generations to embrace volunteer work.

“Volunteering is both a religious and national duty and a moral commitment to humanity in all circumstances,” said Sheikh Hamdan. He emphasised that the UAE’s youth are finding purpose and identity through voluntary initiatives, guided by the values of their leadership and the nation’s commitment to unity, service and compassion.

He highlighted the vital role played by ERC and other institutions in supporting and training volunteers, helping them develop the skills and professionalism needed to carry out humanitarian missions efficiently and effectively.

Sheikh Hamdan extended appreciation to all organisations that support ERC’s programmes, noting that through coordinated efforts, the UAE continues to advance its status as a leader in volunteerism and humanitarian diplomacy.
