BERLIN: The UAE President Germany visit has begun with an official welcome in Berlin, opening a new round of high-level talks aimed at strengthening economic, investment and strategic ties between the two countries.
The UAE President arrived in the German capital on September 9 for a state visit. As the presidential aircraft entered German airspace, it was accompanied by German military aircraft in a gesture of welcome. An official reception followed, including a 21-gun salute and guard of honour.
What will the UAE and Germany discuss?
The visit is expected to focus heavily on economic and development cooperation.
The UAE President is due to hold talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with both sides looking at opportunities to deepen their longstanding partnership.
Artificial intelligence, energy and investment are expected to feature prominently, with agreements in these areas anticipated during the visit.
The relationship has developed significantly since the UAE and Germany established diplomatic ties in 1972. A strategic partnership signed in 2004 provided another foundation for expanding political and economic cooperation.

How important is UAE-Germany trade?
Germany is already one of the UAE’s major European economic partners.
Bilateral trade reached about €13.6 billion, or $15.8 billion, in 2025, representing growth of approximately 15 per cent compared with the previous year. UAE exports to Germany increased by 58 per cent.
Around 2,000 German companies also operate in the Emirates, creating extensive commercial links across manufacturing, transport, engineering, energy and technology.
The UAE President’s Germany visit provides an opportunity to build on that foundation by connecting German industrial and technological expertise with UAE investment, infrastructure and access to rapidly expanding markets.

Why is energy cooperation important?
Energy has become another major pillar of the relationship.
Abu Dhabi renewable energy company Masdar owns a 49 per cent stake in Germany’s 476-megawatt Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm. The project became fully operational in 2025 and can supply electricity to approximately 475,000 homes.
ADNOC and German energy company RWE have also agreed to explore opportunities involving liquefied natural gas supplies to Germany and other European markets.
The UAE delegation accompanying the President includes senior government figures responsible for foreign affairs, industry, foreign trade, defence and advanced technology, underlining the broad scope of the discussions.
As talks continue in Berlin, the UAE President Germany visit could provide the foundation for deeper cooperation in areas extending from traditional industry and energy into artificial intelligence and advanced technology.
