Live data shows major delays and cancellations at Dubai International Airport, with weather disrupting UAE flight operations; travellers urged to check status before heading out.
DUBAI: Flight operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) are experiencing major disruptions as heavy rainfall, strong winds and overcast conditions continue to affect aviation across the United Arab Emirates.
According to Flightradar24, the current departure disruption index at DXB is 5.0, the highest on the scale, indicating long delays and several cancellations. The average departure delay stands at 65 minutes, while arrivals are delayed by 51 minutes with a disruption index of 4.8.
The disruption index, measured on a scale from 0 to 5, reflects the severity of flight delays and cancellations. A reading above 3.5 signifies major operational challenges.
Airlines including Emirates, flydubai, Air Arabia and Etihad have issued alerts and recommended that passengers arrive at least four hours before scheduled flights, complete online check-in, and track their flight status regularly. Flights to and from India, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Europe are especially affected.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecast continued stormy weather with convective clouds, lightning, and strong winds, prompting further disruptions through the weekend. Winds at the airport were recorded blowing at 10 knots from 230°, with temperatures at 21°C and overcast skies.
Airports across the UAE remain operational but under pressure, with some flights being rerouted or delayed due to visibility issues and safety precautions. Motorists travelling to DXB or other major airports are advised to allow extra time due to rain-related traffic congestion and waterlogging.
Travellers are urged to monitor official updates from airlines, airport websites, and the NCM, and to avoid unnecessary travel to the airport unless flight status is confirmed.
Whats the disruption index?
The disruption index is an easy way to understand how badly flights are affected at an airport. It uses a scale from 0 to 5. The higher the number, the more delays and cancellations there are. A score below 2 means things are running mostly on time. A score between 2 and 3.4 means there are a few delays. Anything above 3.5 means major disruptions with long waits and cancelled flights. Right now, Dubai International Airport has a disruption index of 5.0, which means many flights are being delayed or cancelled due to bad weather.
