Andres Iniesta launches football academy in Dubai, aiming to develop young players through elite coaching, football education and strong personal values.
DUBAI: Football legend Andres Iniesta has officially unveiled the Andres Iniesta Academy in Dubai, marking a significant new chapter in his post-playing career. The Spanish World Cup winner announced the initiative alongside local partner Abdulrahman Almeqbali in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council.
The launch was revealed during a press conference attended by senior sports officials, including representatives from the Dubai Sports Council, as well as leading figures from the local sporting community. The academy reflects Iniesta’s ambition to pass on his football philosophy and help shape the next generation of players in the UAE.
The Andres Iniesta Academy will focus on combining technical football development with personal growth. Inspired by the values that guided Iniesta throughout his celebrated career, the programme aims to help young athletes improve their skills while learning discipline, respect, teamwork and responsibility.
Following his retirement from professional football in October 2024, Iniesta has been preparing for a coaching career. The former FC Barcelona and Spain midfielder has already earned his coaching qualifications and is continuing his journey towards obtaining a Pro Licence. He is also set to begin a new role as head coach of Dubai-based Gulf United FC.
Iniesta said the academy’s mission extends beyond football success. He believes young players should develop as individuals while striving to achieve excellence on the pitch. The academy’s coaching structure will be overseen by experienced technical directors who will ensure that football education is combined with strong character development.
The Andres Iniesta Academy is expected to begin talent identification programmes later this summer. Open trials will take place at Dubai Sports World from August 1 to 14, after which permanent academy locations will be selected across the emirate.
With football participation continuing to grow across the UAE, the academy aims to provide aspiring young players with world-class training while promoting the values that helped make Iniesta one of football’s most respected figures.
