A complex jaw reconstruction surgery at Medcare Dentofaces helped an Emirati patient recover his smile, speech, eating ability and confidence after severe facial trauma.

DUBAI: An Emirati patient who suffered life-changing facial injuries in a road accident has successfully rebuilt his life following a highly specialised jaw reconstruction surgery at Medcare Dentofaces in Dubai. The 40-year-old patient, Mr Juma, underwent a comprehensive treatment programme that restored both the appearance and function of his mouth and jaw after extensive trauma.

The accident, which occurred in June 2024, left him with multiple fractures involving the eye socket, upper jaw and palate. Although emergency treatment addressed the immediate injuries, the long-term effects remained severe. He lost most of his teeth, experienced significant bone loss in both jaws and struggled with eating, swallowing and speaking. The physical changes also affected his confidence and daily life.

Seeking a long-term solution, Mr Juma visited Medcare Dentofaces in July 2025. An interdisciplinary team led by oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr Farzin Sarkarat and prosthodontist Dr Saman Fallahi Sichani developed a personalised rehabilitation plan. The treatment combined digital planning, advanced bone grafting procedures and implant rehabilitation to restore oral function and facial balance.

According to Dr Sarkarat, the case required rebuilding the foundation of the patient’s mouth before any restorative work could begin. Using a fully digital workflow, specialists mapped the final position of the teeth before surgery and created customised 3D surgical guides for precise treatment. Bone grafting and sinus-lifting procedures were performed to prepare the jaw for implant placement.

A total of 14 dental implants were inserted, supporting a full-mouth restoration. Temporary implant-supported teeth were fitted during healing before being replaced with permanent ceramic restorations. This stage of the jaw reconstruction surgery helped restore natural appearance and long-term stability.

Following treatment, Mr Juma reported major improvements in eating, speaking and everyday comfort. The successful jaw reconstruction surgery also restored his self-confidence and allowed him to enjoy family life again. The case demonstrates how advances in digital dentistry and reconstructive care are transforming outcomes for patients with severe facial trauma.
