RABAT: Recognising Sharjah’s global cultural influence, Morocco has named the emirate as Guest of Honour at the 2025 Rabat International Book Fair (RIBF), reinforcing strong UAE-Morocco cultural ties.

The fair, organised by Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, will take place from April 17 to 27 at OLM Souissi. The announcement was formalised through an agreement signed by Khoula Al Mujaini, Director of Events and Marketing at the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), and Latifa Moftaqir, General Coordinator of RIBF.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA, highlighted that culture is a powerful medium for fostering global connections. “Morocco’s recognition of Sharjah Guest of Honour reflects our shared cultural heritage and deep historical ties,” she said.

Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid welcomed Sharjah’s participation, emphasising the emirate’s contributions to literature and knowledge. “This honour acknowledges Sharjah’s dedication to culture, just as we experienced when Morocco was Guest of Honour at Sharjah International Book Fair,” he noted.

SBA CEO Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri added that Sharjah’s selection reaffirms its role in strengthening Arab and global cultural exchange. “Guided by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Sharjah continues to promote knowledge as a cornerstone of development.”

The emirate’s cultural programme at RIBF will feature 15 Emirati publishers, panel discussions, literary workshops, traditional performances, and an Arabic calligraphy showcase, fostering creative collaboration between the UAE and Morocco.
