Dubai: A total of 200 contenders from 28 countries will compete for top honours at the 24th edition of the Dubai Open Chess Tournament.

The prestigious event will be hosted by the Dubai Chess and Culture Club from May 25th to June 2nd, 2024.

Details about the tournament emerged during a press briefing held today at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, chaired by Najib Mohammed Saleh, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, Othman Musa, the tournament director, and Mohammed Al Husseini, Executive Director of the Club.

Saleh emphasized the tournament’s significance as one of the largest and most renowned international competitions in the chess world. It has been a pivotal stage in the careers of numerous chess luminaries, including world champion Magnus Carlsen.

This year’s event is expected to draw the world’s elite chess grandmasters, such as Teymur Radjabov from Azerbaijan, Raunak Sadhwani from India, and Lu Miaoyi, the Chinese Woman Grandmaster. The UAE team will be led by International Chess Federation Master Saeed Ishaq.

The Dubai Open Chess Tournament, a premier event in the Middle East, has attracted players globally since its inception in 1999.

Initially designed to showcase the UAE’s emerging talents, it has evolved into one of the world’s most prestigious open tournaments, boasting a prize pool of US$52,000.
