MUMBAI: Mumbai watermelon poisoning case has shocked the city after four members of the same family died within hours of falling ill, with initial suspicion pointing towards food-related illness.
The incident took place in South Mumbai’s Pydhonie area on April 25, 2026. According to reports, the family had hosted a small gathering at their home before consuming watermelon later that night.
Soon after, all four began experiencing severe symptoms.
Vomiting, dizziness and rapid health deterioration were reported within hours, prompting the family to seek medical help. They were first taken to a local doctor and later shifted to Sir J. J. Hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite efforts by doctors, all four family members died within a short span of time.
The victims have been identified as Abdullah Dokadia (40), his wife Nasreen (35), and their daughters Ayesha (16) and Zainab (13). Reports indicate the youngest daughter passed away first, followed by the others.
The Mumbai watermelon poisoning case is currently under investigation, with authorities registering an accidental death case. Forensic analysis and postmortem reports are awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether the watermelon was contaminated or if another factor was involved. However, the case has raised serious concerns about food safety and handling.
