Aster Quality Care has officially begun operations following the merger of Aster DM Healthcare and Quality Care India Limited. The combined healthcare network aims to expand specialist medical services, advanced technology and affordable treatment beyond India’s metropolitan cities.

DUBAI: Aster Quality Care has officially commenced operations following the completion of the merger between Aster DM Healthcare and Quality Care India Limited (QCIL), creating one of India’s largest integrated healthcare providers. The new organisation brings together four established healthcare brands, Aster DM, CARE Hospitals, Evercare and KIMSHEALTH, with a shared goal of making specialist healthcare and advanced medical technology more accessible across the country.

What is Aster Quality Care?

The merger creates a healthcare network spanning 39 hospitals across 28 Indian cities, with more than 10,600 operational beds. Rather than concentrating future growth in metropolitan centres, the organisation plans to expand specialist care into tier 2 and tier 3 cities, where access to advanced treatments has traditionally been more limited.

Dr. Azad Moopen will continue as Executive Chairman of the merged company, while Varun Khanna has assumed the role of Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer.

According to Dr. Moopen, the merger represents more than the combination of two healthcare organisations. He said it brings together shared values, clinical excellence and medical expertise to create a stronger institution capable of addressing India’s changing healthcare needs.

Why does the merger matter?

Aster Quality Care intends to decentralise advanced healthcare by investing in specialist services, centres of excellence and modern medical technology closer to where patients live. This approach is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to large cities for complex treatments, making healthcare more convenient and accessible.

The combined network has identified several fast-growing healthcare markets, including Nagpur, Aurangabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Nagercoil, Kolhapur, Kannur, Kasaragod and Kottakkal, as key locations for future expansion.

What new investments are planned?

The organisation plans significant investments in advanced medical equipment and specialist treatment programmes. These include additional robotic surgery platforms, Gamma Knife technology, stereotactic radiosurgery systems such as ZAP, and 12 new LINAC-based radiation therapy systems to strengthen cancer care outside metropolitan areas.

The group has already introduced advanced technologies in several regional centres, including LINAC-based radiation therapy in Nagercoil and robotic surgery programmes in Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram and Kolhapur. Similar services are expected to expand into Guntur and Vijayawada.

Alongside technology, the merged organisation plans to encourage greater collaboration among doctors through shared clinical protocols, multidisciplinary case discussions and integrated centres of excellence, helping patients receive consistent standards of care across its network.

What happens next?

Aster Quality Care expects to increase its combined capacity to more than 15,000 beds over the coming years. Supported by a workforce of over 45,000 healthcare professionals, the organisation also expects to create thousands of additional employment opportunities for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and support staff.

The company says its immediate priority is ensuring a smooth integration of systems, services and clinical operations while maintaining uninterrupted patient care. It also plans to strengthen digital healthcare capabilities, improve operational efficiency and expand specialist services as demand continues to grow across India.

By combining established hospital networks with investments in technology and regional expansion, Aster Quality Care aims to bring world-class healthcare closer to millions of patients while supporting the long-term development of India’s healthcare infrastructure.
