ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, recently visited Mahatma Gandhi’s shrine and planted saplings at the Raj Ghat memorial in New Delhi, India.

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled observed a one-minute silence and laid a wreath of flowers at Gandhi’s shrine to honour the father of Indian independence and his significant impact on the country’s progress.

He also tended to trees planted at the memorial by the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in 1975, and by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a visit in 2016.

Continuing this tradition, Sheikh Khaled planted his own tree of friendship, further strengthening the deep ties between the UAE and India. He expressed pride in the strong relationship between the two nations and emphasised that their collaborative efforts would enhance bilateral ties and benefit both communities.

At the end of the visit, Sheikh Khaled wrote a message in the guestbook, stating, “Mahatma Gandhi will always be remembered for his sacrifices and the values of love and peace he promoted. Our Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed, shared these values through his legacy of generosity and humanitarian work.”
