Saudi Arabia intercepts drones and cruise missiles entering its airspace, destroying multiple aerial threats, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia intercepts drones and cruise missiles that entered the Kingdom’s airspace early Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Defence.

Major General Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defence, announced that nine drones were detected and immediately intercepted and destroyed upon entering Saudi airspace. The announcement was shared in an official statement posted on the Ministry’s account on the X platform.

The spokesperson confirmed that air defence systems successfully neutralised the aerial threats before they could reach their intended targets. Authorities did not specify the origin of the drones but said monitoring and defensive operations remain active.

In addition to the drones, two cruise missiles were also intercepted and destroyed in Al-Kharj Governorate. Air defence units responded quickly after detecting the missiles, ensuring they were neutralised before causing damage.

Officials stated that the Kingdom’s air defence systems remain fully operational and prepared to respond to any threats targeting Saudi territory. The Ministry reiterated that the protection of national security and civilian safety remains a top priority.

The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions, with several countries strengthening air defence measures against potential missile and drone attacks. Military officials said surveillance and interception systems across Saudi Arabia continue to monitor the airspace closely.

As Saudi Arabia intercepts drones and cruise missiles entering its territory, authorities stressed that the armed forces remain ready to address any escalation and will take necessary steps to safeguard the Kingdom’s security and stability.
