Drone hits Kuwait Airport causing minor injuries as explosions are heard over Doha amid escalating Gulf retaliation.
KUWAIT CITY: Drone hits Kuwait Airport on Saturday, according to the civil aviation authority, as Iran intensified retaliatory strikes across the Gulf following US and Israeli military action. The authority confirmed that the unmanned aerial vehicle struck Kuwait International Airport, resulting in minor injuries to a number of employees and limited material damage to the passenger terminal.
In an official statement, the authority said, “A drone targeted Kuwait International Airport, resulting in minor injuries to a number of employees, in addition to limited material damage to the passenger terminal.” Emergency services responded swiftly, and operations were being assessed as security measures were reinforced.
Meanwhile, fresh loud explosions were heard over central Doha, according to journalists on the ground, as Iran targeted United States military bases across the region. Missile defence systems were seen intercepting projectiles in the skies above Doha’s corniche during the latest salvo.
Qatar hosts the Al-Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the region, making it a key strategic site amid the escalating confrontation. Authorities in Qatar have not immediately reported casualties but have activated precautionary protocols.
The drone hits Kuwait Airport incident marks a significant expansion of hostilities into civilian aviation infrastructure, raising serious concerns about regional air safety. Several Gulf states have already imposed airspace restrictions in response to the deteriorating security situation.
Officials across the region have urged residents to remain calm and rely on verified information from official sources as assessments continue.
