The Arab science awards recognised young researchers for excellence in circular economy, renewable energy, and green chemistry.

Dubai: The Arab science awards were unveiled at the 57th General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities, hosted by the International University of Science and Technology in Kuwait. Launched by the Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah Investment Group in partnership with the Association, the Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah Young Scientists Award recognises excellence in circular economy, renewable energy, and green chemistry.

During the conference’s opening session, dignitaries including Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour and Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama celebrated the contributions of over 300 Arab universities. The award, supervised by the Association and valued at AED 250,000, targets young scientists from member institutions and aims to inspire sustainable development through research and innovation.

In the circular economy category, the $15,000 first prize went to Dr. Heba Salah Hamed from Ain Shams University. In renewable energy, the winning project was from Palestine Polytechnic University, led by Dr. Maher Al-Jaabari with Raghad Mubarak and Dana Al-Jaabari. Egypt’s Zagazig University secured second place. In green chemistry, Dr. Wael Dagher of Damascus University won first prize, with Badr University’s Dalia Hamed Amer taking second.

Chairman Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah hailed the scientific excellence of Arab youth and the award’s role in driving real-world transformation. “This award reflects the wise leadership of the United Arab Emirates in promoting science and supporting young scientists,” he said.

Although announced in Kuwait, winners will be honoured in Dubai during a formal ceremony, which will also recognise standout UAE researchers. This biennial award aims to deepen youth engagement in science and foster regional collaboration.
