The search and rescue efforts continue following the catastrophic 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes which struck near the country’s border with Syria.
Hassan spoke with the media from the city of Kyrenia as he described the ‘devastation’ they were feeling over what’s happened, explaining how he’ll be travelling from Cyprus to Turkey when the footage came out.
“We’re here, raising money, sending over supplies, and trying to find a route into Turkey and to the worst affected areas,” he had said.
“The most extensive distress for me is that there are some areas that have been completely flattened and with no help.
“What we’re trying to do here is ascertain exactly where the most help is needed.”
The 54-year-old continued: “We have family there, people dying. My biggest fear there is that people are going to start turning on each other.
The reporter then asked Hassan to clarify whether he was talking about his own family, to which he replied: “We have family missing in these earthquakes that haven’t been found.
“Due to the cold weather, we’re not hopeful.”
“We’re quite worried,” he added before taking a pause as he grew tearful, with the reporter telling him to ‘take his time’.
