Sharjah Ruler inaugurates first phase of Mleiha Dairy Farm
Tue 30 Apr 2024Sharjah: H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, launched the inaugural phase of Mleiha Dairy Farm and unveiled its visual identity, setting the stage for a groundbreaking venture in organic farming.
The event, graced by the presence of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, commenced with a symbolic bell-ringing ceremony by children, marking the official commencement of operations at the farm.
In his address, the Ruler emphasized Sharjah’s commitment to integrated projects aimed at providing healthy sustenance for families. These initiatives encompass vegetable production, wheat farming, dairy farming, and forthcoming poultry farming. Complementing these efforts is the establishment of Al Dhaid University, facilitating expert support for agricultural endeavors and ensuring a prosperous future for citizens.
Highlighting the success of previous projects, including vegetable and wheat cultivation in Mleiha, Sheikh Sultan underscored the dairy farm’s significance. With an allocated budget of approximately AED 600 million, the project represents a monumental step towards sustainable food production.
The dairy farm boasts a herd of purebred Holstein cows from Germany and Denmark, meticulously selected and nurtured for optimal health and productivity. Sheikh Sultan revealed plans for expansion, projecting a herd size of 5,000 over the next five years.
Ensuring the cows’ well-being is paramount, with comprehensive care encompassing health, nutrition, and natural growth. The farm aims to become a leading producer of clean, organic milk within three years.
Sheikh Sultan outlined plans for a poultry project aligned with the farm’s ethos of natural, sustainable practices. The poultry will be raised in open spaces, free from growth enhancers and artificial substances, reinforcing their nutritional value and safety.
The farm’s holistic approach extends to environmental sustainability, with waste utilized as organic fertilizer for crop cultivation. This circular economy model promotes resource efficiency and environmental stewardship.
During a tour of the farm’s facilities, Sheikh Sultan observed the advanced technologies employed, including automated milking systems and health monitoring tools. These innovations ensure efficiency and animal welfare, enhancing the farm’s productivity and sustainability.
The Ruler emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits, engaging children in a discussion about nutritious food choices. Encouraging them to advocate for healthy living, Sheikh Sultan underscored the role of education in fostering a vibrant, resilient society.
