ABU DHABI: The much-loved Disney brand is finally making its way to the Middle East, with plans unveiled for a brand-new theme park on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The announcement came as The Walt Disney Company joined hands with Miral, the Emirate’s leading destination developer, marking Disney’s first theme park in the region.
The Disney Theme Park Resort Abu Dhabi will be the seventh Disney resort in the world, following iconic locations in California, Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. This move further strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a global tourism hotspot, connecting visitors across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
The strategic partnership was witnessed by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, who described the collaboration as a testament to the UAE’s vision of becoming a global leisure and cultural destination. He highlighted that the project aligns with the National Strategy for Cultural and Creative Industries to boost GDP and economic diversification.

Miral will oversee the full development of the resort, while Disney will lead the creative side — from attraction design to guest experience. Once complete, Miral will operate the park, building on its expertise in managing Yas Island’s entertainment destinations.
Disney CEO Bob Iger called the project “an extraordinary opportunity,” while Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro teased a groundbreaking, modern castle as the centrepiece.
