Suriya Jyothika vow renewal celebrations marked 20 years of marriage with an intimate ceremony surrounded by their children, family and close friends.
CHENNAI: Twenty years after their wedding, Tamil cinema stars Suriya and Jyothika have exchanged vows again, celebrating two decades of marriage with an intimate ceremony that has captured widespread attention from fans.
The Suriya Jyotika vow renewal was revealed through a video shared on social media, showing the couple surrounded by their children Diya and Dev, relatives and close friends. Suriya’s brother and fellow actor Karthi was also present.
Why Suriya and Jyotika renewed their vows
Jyothika described the celebration as “THE SEQUEL”, marking what she called their “20 years of love and war”.
Rather than portraying their marriage as perfect, the actress reflected on the adjustments, understanding and sacrifices involved in building their relationship over two decades. She described the occasion as a celebration of the people they had become for each other.
For the ceremony, Jyotika wore a white bridal gown while Suriya appeared in a white suit jacket with black trousers. Images and video showed the couple exchanging vows in a church setting.

Their children join the emotional celebration
The presence of Diya and Dev made the second ceremony markedly different from the couple’s original wedding.
The video shared by the actors captured family moments surrounding the ceremony, including their children witnessing their parents renew their commitment after two decades together.
Jyotika’s anniversary message also placed family at the heart of her renewed promises, reflecting on motherhood, health, gratitude and her friendship with Suriya.

From movie co-stars to 20 years of marriage
Suriya and Jyotika’s relationship has long been closely followed by Tamil cinema audiences.
They first appeared together in the 1999 film Poovellam Kettuppar and subsequently shared the screen in films including Uyirile Kalanthathu, Kaakha Kaakha, Perazhagan, Maayavi and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.
The couple married in 2006. Jyotika later stepped away from acting for several years before returning to cinema with 36 Vayadhinile in 2015.
Suriya has spoken openly about spending more of his family life in Mumbai after Jyotika had spent around 27 years in Chennai. He explained that Jyotika had moved away from Mumbai when she was young and had given up much of her earlier lifestyle, including time with her parents and friends.
The actor said the change allowed his wife to reconnect with her parents and pursue new professional opportunities. He has also spoken about wanting Jyotika to have the same independence, friendships and personal time that men expect for themselves.
Jyotika looks towards their next 20 years
The Suriya Jyotika vow renewal ultimately focused less on recreating their original wedding and more on acknowledging how their relationship has evolved.
Jyotika described Suriya as her equal, confidant and best friend while looking ahead to another two decades together. She ended her anniversary message with a reference to “the imperfect us” and the understanding they have developed through their marriage.
The ceremony offered fans a rare personal glimpse of one of Tamil cinema’s most recognised couples celebrating a milestone away from the film set.
Impact to expect
The anniversary celebration is likely to generate strong entertainment and social-media interest, particularly among Tamil cinema audiences familiar with the couple’s journey from co-stars to life partners.
