MUMBAI: Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata arrives on Zee 5 Global on August 14, bringing audiences a Hindi thriller-drama inspired by the courage of healthcare and hospital workers during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Starring Kangana Ranaut, Girija Oak and Smita Tambe, the film shifts attention towards people whose actions were largely away from the headlines. Set within Mumbai’s Cama and Albless Hospital, it follows nurses, ward boys, cleaners, security personnel and other staff as they confront extraordinary danger while trying to protect patients.
Written and directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film is produced by PEN Studios, Manikarnika Films and Paramhans Creations in association with Eunoia Films LLP and Floating Rocks Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
Rather than focusing solely on the wider events of the attacks, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata explores courage through the experiences of ordinary people placed in an extraordinary situation. Siju Prabhakaran, Chief Business Officer of Zee 5 Global, described the film as a tribute to the “extraordinary courage and humanity displayed by ordinary people” and said its themes of compassion, resilience and selfless service extend beyond borders.
Tapadia said the intention was to explore a perspective of 26/11 that had received less attention, particularly the actions unfolding inside Cama Hospital. He highlighted how doctors, nurses and other staff continued caring for patients despite the danger around them.
Ranaut, who is also a producer on the project, said bringing the healthcare workers’ stories to the screen was important because their actions were driven by duty and compassion rather than recognition.
For viewers, the film offers a human-focused perspective on a well-known historical event. Instead of presenting heroism only through conventional figures, it examines what happens when everyday professionals are suddenly required to make difficult choices under extreme circumstances.
