ROME: The Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) has finished its international exhibition, “From Sharjah to Rome via the Spice Route”, at the historic Curia Julia inside the Colosseum Archaeological Park in Rome. The event, which ran from February to May 2025, welcomed more than 600,000 visitors from around the world.

The Sharjah archaeological exhibition showed how Sharjah was linked to the Roman world through ancient trade. It focused on important places like Mleiha and Dibba Al-Hisn, which were part of the old Silk and Spice Routes. These routes connected the Arabian Gulf with the Mediterranean Sea and helped Sharjah grow through trade.

A main feature of the Sharjah archaeological exhibition was a short film made by the SAA. It showed how trade and culture moved between the Roman Empire and the eastern Arabian Peninsula. Visitors enjoyed the film’s clear storytelling and visuals, which helped bring the past to life.

Eisa Yousif, Director-General of the SAA, said, “This exhibition helped people around the world learn about Sharjah’s history. Having more than 600,000 visitors in just three months shows how much people care about archaeology and culture.”

He also said the event followed the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. His support has helped Sharjah share its culture and history with people everywhere.

The Sharjah archaeological exhibition displayed over 110 rare items from Sharjah’s past. It used technology like augmented reality and 3D displays to make the experience fun and educational. The event also included a talk with Emirati and Italian experts about how to protect history using new tools. The SAA also met with officials from the Colosseum to plan more work together in the future.
