Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has successfully implemented a series of traffic improvements at 14 locations throughout the city in 2023. These initiatives have resulted in significant reductions in travel times, with some locations experiencing up to a 50% decrease. Additionally, the vehicular capacity of various roads has been enhanced by as much as 25%.

This undertaking is part of RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvements Plan, which aims to implement 45 traffic solutions across different areas in the emirate during 2023-2024. The projects demonstrate RTA’s commitment to continuously improving Dubai’s infrastructure, easing traffic congestion, increasing road capacity, and enhancing overall road efficiency and safety. These efforts are crucial to keeping up with the dynamic growth in Dubai’s urban landscape and population.

Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, emphasized the commitment to executing the directives of leaders and accommodating the emirate’s demographic and urban expansion. The goal is to continually advance the infrastructure to expand the road network’s capacity and align with Dubai’s sustainable growth, ensuring the well-being and happiness of the population.

The improvements are part of a regularly updated strategic plan, involving comprehensive monitoring of road network performance using traffic studies, control centers, public suggestions and complaints, and on-site monitoring by RTA’s teams. The completion of these works has received widespread approval from the public.

Al Ali mentioned that the traffic improvements will continue throughout 2024, covering various key areas such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Awir Street, Abu Baker Al Siddique street, Al Rebat Street, Al Khail Road, and Al Meydan Street.

Key improvements in 2023 included upgrading the free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Financial Centre Street towards Al Khail Road, doubling the exit’s capacity and significantly reducing travel times. Substantial enhancements on Al Fay Street added lanes, reducing travel times for entering and exiting the Dubai Production District and Dubai Sports City District by 50%.

Traffic solutions included a free exit from Al-Saba Street towards Garn Al Sabkha Street, cutting travel times by around 60%, and expanding the right-hand exit from Al Rebat Street to the Business Bay Crossing, improving traffic service and safety standards. Widening the exit on Emirates Road towards Maliha Street intersection boosted capacity and enhanced traffic circulation in the area.
