The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), which recently completed two projects on Ittihad Road and the Al Taawun region, is to be credited for the recent improvement in the flow of traffic between Dubai and Sharjah.

According to the authorities, the Al Nahda Bridge, which connects the two emirates from the Al Taawun area, now has one more lane.

As many Sharjah residents drive to and from Dubai for work during the morning and evening rush hours each day, Al Taawun Street, which connects Sharjah and Dubai, experiences severe traffic. Motorists traveling toward Ittihad Road and the Sharjah Ring Road from the Al Taawun, Al Khan, and Al Majaz districts should benefit from these initiatives.

In a recent Tweet, the Authority stated, “As part of Roads and Transport Authority’s continuous efforts to improve traffic flow in the emirate’s streets and roads, traffic improvements have been completed at Al Nahda Bridge by adding a new lane on the bridge with a length of 500 metres, to ease traffic congestion on Al Taawun Square.”

The SRTA also finished a traffic-improvement project on Al Ittihad artery, increasing capacity for commuters traveling between Dubai and Sharjah and reducing traffic on the arterial artery.

The Khulafa Al Rashideen Bridge, formerly known as the Al Khan Bridge, gained a 600-meter lane that was completely connected, facilitating a smoother flow of traffic in the direction of Al Majaz, Al Khan, and the Industrial Area.

Soon after the Salik North gate, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority also let drivers to access the road connecting Ittihad Road to Al Mamzar. Previously, only taxis and public transportation were allowed to use this road.

After the Floating Bridge was shut down for maintenance in the middle of April, this road was opened. The Floating Bridge, however, would stay closed till further notice, the RTA later declared.

“It is definitely smoother traffic flow now, especially in the morning, as I reach my office usually five to 10 minutes faster than earlier. I know the number of vehicles has decreased as schools are closed and people are leaving for vacations, but these new initiatives by Sharjah and Dubai authorities have benefited traffic flow as well,” said Abul Hassan, a regular driver to Dubai for work.
