DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the final phase of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side, marking a major milestone in improving Dubai’s road infrastructure.
The final component involved opening the last bridge at the Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street intersection. This key structure now ensures uninterrupted traffic from Al Garhoud Bridge to Port Rashid, via the iconic Infinity Bridge and extending to the Waterfront Market. Travel time across this corridor has been significantly reduced—from 80 minutes to just 12 minutes.
Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director-General, noted that the project is in line with directives from Dubai’s leadership and reflects efforts to accommodate urban growth. The 13-kilometre corridor now serves one million residents and connects key developments such as Dubai Islands and Port Rashid.
The overall development features 18 km of bridges and tunnels, 15 intersections, and an increase in vehicle capacity from 6,400 to 24,000 cars per hour. Commute time has improved dramatically, offering a total time savings of up to 88 minutes.
Highlights include the Falcon Intersection, five new bridges to Dubai Islands, and the 295-metre Infinity Bridge with 12 lanes and a dedicated cycling path. A new tunnel is also under construction to connect Infinity Bridge with Al Khaleej and Cairo Streets. Additionally, a bridge over Dubai Creek is planned to provide direct access to Dubai Islands, complete with pedestrian and cycle paths.
This massive infrastructure upgrade brings an estimated AED45 billion in economic benefits over the next 20 years, enhancing connectivity and road safety across Dubai.
