Road improvements for Al Wasl Road intersection eases travel for Dubai residents

Dubai: Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently opened a new signalised junction at the intersection of Al Majasimi and Al Wasl Road, positioned between Umm Suqeim Street and Al Thanya Street. This development aims to enhance traffic flow and facilitate vehicles exiting from Umm Suqeim 3 onto Al Wasl Road by installing traffic signals.

As part of RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvements Plan 2024, the project includes widening Al Majasimi Street, expanding it from one lane to two lanes in each direction over a 200-meter stretch leading to the intersection. These efforts are geared towards continuously improving the road network, easing traffic congestion, and enhancing road safety standards across the emirate.

By widening Al Majasimi Street to accommodate dual lanes in both directions towards and away from Al Wasl Road, the street’s capacity has doubled from 1,200 to 2,400 vehicles per hour in each direction.

The upgrades at the signalised junction of Al Majasimi Street and Al Wasl Road introduce a new traffic flow at the intersection. This allows for left turns from Al Majasimi Street onto Al Wasl Road, eliminating the need for a right turn onto Umm Suqeim Street followed by a U-turn on Al Wasl Road. Consequently, this addition has significantly reduced traffic congestion at the intersection of Al Wasl Road with Umm Suqeim Street, reducing travel time from Umm Suqeim 3 to Al Wasl Road from 3 minutes to just 30 seconds.
