DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled the fourth-generation traditional abras, bringing a fresh upgrade to Dubai’s beloved marine transport. This modern revamp enhances daily commutes and strengthens the city’s marine tourism appeal, aligning with Dubai’s reputation as a top global destination.
Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, stated, “This step reflects RTA’s commitment to enhancing service quality and improving the overall experience for marine transport users in line with its strategic goals.”
The latest abras now seat 24 passengers, up from 20, and fully comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code, ensuring accessibility for all. Key upgrades include comfortable seating, better flooring, and a layout with dedicated spaces for people of determination.
On the tech side, these abras now feature smart public transport systems, real-time passenger information screens, and safety alerts. Digital destination boards have also been introduced for the first time, making it easier for passengers to navigate their journeys.
Beyond convenience, RTA has prioritised safety and sustainability in these new abras. They comply with Gulf Standard Specifications for maritime safety, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to environmentally friendly and secure marine transport.
By modernising these traditional boats, RTA is enhancing connectivity across Dubai’s transport network, making marine travel smoother and more efficient for residents and tourists alike.
