A 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 processing chip designed by Apple was unveiled by the company. The six-speaker laptop will go on sale the following week and have a starting price of $1,299. It will cost $1,099 for the 13-inch MacBook Air.

In an update to its Mac Studio desktop computer, Apple claimed that its new M2 Ultra CPU can execute artificial intelligence tasks that rival chips cannot handle due to a lack of memory.

A new version of Apple’s fastest desktop, the Mac Pro, featuring an M2 Ultra CPU and a starting price of $6,999 was also unveiled. Akin to how Apple improved the performance of its M1 chips, the M2 Ultra chip is simply two of Apple’s largest M2 processors joined together.

The Mac Pro was the last device in Apple’s lineup to employ an Intel processor up until Monday.

Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus, said, “For PC users, there’s never been a better time to switch to a Mac.”

The modifications mix messaging changes, a new Mac Air geared at a far wider audience of buyers, including prospective Apple switchers, with upgrades to high-end machines targeted at the developer crowd at Monday’s event.

Apple made some minor updates to its iOS software, some geared at minor annoyances like a “NameDrop” tool to more quickly share contact information and others aimed at safety and security like a check-in function to let contacts know when a user has arrived at a destination securely.

Apple claimed that it was also enhancing the iPhone keyboard’s autocorrect function.
