The latest Ebola relief airlift from Dubai Humanitarian delivered 60 tonnes of medical supplies to support outbreak response efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

DUBAI: Dubai Humanitarian has facilitated a second Ebola relief airlift within a week, reinforcing international efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Conducted under the directives of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the operation highlights the UAE’s continued commitment to global humanitarian assistance.

The relief mission was carried out in close coordination with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO). Transported via Uganda, the aid shipment was delivered aboard a Boeing 747 aircraft provided by Dubai Royal Air Wing.

The Ebola relief airlift carried approximately 60 metric tonnes of essential humanitarian and medical supplies sourced from the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot, the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The cargo is intended to support frontline healthcare workers and affected communities as authorities work to contain the outbreak.

Giuseppe Saba, CEO and Board Member of Dubai Humanitarian, said the operation reflects the UAE’s unwavering support for humanitarian action and demonstrates the value of coordinated international partnerships. He noted that the mission brought together multiple members of the Dubai Humanitarian network, combining logistics expertise, resources and operational capabilities to accelerate emergency response efforts.

Saba also highlighted the growing cooperation between Dubai Humanitarian and the European Union following the Administrative Arrangement signed between both organisations last year. The partnership aims to improve the speed, sustainability and effectiveness of humanitarian operations worldwide.

Maciej Popowski, Director-General of the European Union’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations, welcomed the initiative and emphasised the importance of international cooperation in responding to the Ebola outbreak across the region. He reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting affected communities and strengthening efforts to save lives.

The latest Ebola relief airlift further reinforces Dubai’s role as a leading global humanitarian hub. Through strategic partnerships and rapid mobilisation capabilities, Dubai Humanitarian continues to facilitate the delivery of critical assistance to communities facing emergencies around the world.
