You can now rent an electric vehicle in Saudi Arabia

Cairo: In an effort to safeguard the environment and promote the use of clean energy, Saudi Arabia has begun renting out the first 10 electric cars in the country.

The Transport General Authority supported the Lucid car introduction as one of several cutting-edge approaches to enhancing quality of life, promoting environmental sustainability, and promoting the use of electric vehicles as an environmentally beneficial choice. The vehicles will be added to Theeb Rent A Car’s fleet, which is situated in Riyadh.

TGA remarked that the move marks the beginning of a new era for rental vehicle agencies.

According to Saudi officials, the world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles, Lucid Motors, plans to produce 150,000 electric vehicles every year in Saudi Arabia by 2027.

By 2030, the monarchy wants to utilize 25% more electric vehicles according to its transport and logistics services strategy.

Saudi Arabia plans to produce 500,000 electric cars annually by 2030, the kingdom’s Investment Minister Khaled Al Faleh said earlier this year.

“There will be a big hub for electrical industries in Saudi Arabia,” he added.

Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman of Saudi Arabia announced the launch of Ceer, the country’s first electric vehicle brand, in November of last year.

The launch was in line with the strategy of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), led by the crown prince, to concentrate on domestically unlocking potential of promising industries that can assist foster economic diversification in the kingdom.

On launching Ceer, Prince Mohammed said: “Saudi Arabia is not just building a new automotive brand. We are igniting a new industry and an ecosystem that attracts international and local investments, creates job opportunities for local talents, enables the private sector, and contributes to increasing Saudi Arabia’s GDP over the next decade.”
