UAE Pavilion in Davos spotlighted how artificial intelligence and sustainability can jointly drive innovation and shape future-ready economies.

DAVOS: The UAE Pavilion at the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum 2026 hosted a forward-thinking dialogue titled “Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, and the Question of What We Optimise For.” The session explored the evolving role of artificial intelligence in driving sustainability and innovation on a global scale.

Led by Professor Julia Binder from IMD Business School, the session gathered young global leaders and thought influencers to assess how artificial intelligence can shift organisational strategies. The discussion argued that current models often prioritise short-term gains and urged a shift toward long-term value creation — economically, socially, and environmentally.

Commenting on the UAE’s move at Davos, Capt Pradeep Singh, founder and chairman – Karma Developers (UAE), Who is in Davos as an speaker in Forbes Middle east Hub 2026 said that, “A very timely and important discussion. What stood out in Davos was the UAE’s clarity that AI must optimise for long-term value, not just short-term efficiency. The Pavilion’s message — “Impossible is Possible” — resonated strongly, reinforcing how ambition, sustainability, and ethical innovation can move forward together.

Professor Binder highlighted how aligning artificial intelligence systems with environmental and social objectives, rather than focusing solely on profit or efficiency, can transform entire industries. She called for a rethink of what institutions should optimise for — moving from what is technically possible to what is strategically sustainable.

A key theme from the dialogue was the potential of artificial intelligence to accelerate circular economy models, reduce waste, and enhance sustainable design. The session also stressed the ethical dimension of AI decisions, positioning leadership and strategic alignment as crucial to ensuring responsible deployment.

Attendees also emphasised the role of education and cross-disciplinary skills in enabling this transition. The session concluded with a consensus that artificial intelligence and sustainability are not separate goals, but part of a unified pathway toward resilient and future-ready economies.

The UAE Pavilion’s role in this global conversation further reinforces the country’s strategic commitment to sustainability and innovation on the world stage.
