Clarivate’s Top 100 Global Innovators 2026 list highlights organisations leading global invention, with exceptional AI invention strength accounting for 16% of top inventions.

LONDON: Clarivate Plc, a leading provider of transformative intelligence solutions, has released its Top 100 Global Innovators 2026 list recognising organisations at the forefront of invention quality and global impact.

The annual ranking celebrates organisations that consistently deliver high‑impact inventions that shape the future of industries worldwide. The 2026 report emphasises that innovation leadership is increasingly defined by precision, strategic intent, and the strength of inventions rather than sheer volume of patent filings.

Artificial intelligence (AI) innovation is a major theme of this year’s ranking, with the Top 100 organisations responsible for approximately 16 per cent of the world’s strongest AI‑related inventions. Patent filings related to AI have surged in recent years, with generative AI and deep learning among the fastest-growing frontiers.

Japan continues to dominate the innovation landscape, with 32 organisations featured and five of the top 10 positions. Mainland China and South Korea each have multiple top positions, while the United States, Taiwan, Germany and other countries also contribute significantly to the innovation ecosystem.

Samsung Electronics retains its spot as the #1 ranked global innovator. Six companies have been recognised for the first time, including Aptiv, CXMT, GE Vernova, Silicon Motion, Subaru and ZTE, while several organisations such as Apple, LG Display and Saudi Aramco have re‑entered the list this year.

Organisations that have maintained longstanding innovation leadership include Boeing, Dow, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Honda, Honeywell, LG Electronics, NEC, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Shin‑Etsu Chemical, Sony, Toshiba and Toyota.

The rankings are underpinned by Clarivate’s proprietary Derwent Strength Index, which uses data from the Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) to measure invention influence, rarity and global reach.
