Aster Hospital Mankhool specialists successfully completed a rare pan facial reconstruction, restoring function and appearance after a life-threatening accident.

DUBAI: Doctors at Aster Hospital Mankhool have successfully carried out a highly complex pan facial reconstruction on a 42-year-old man following a severe accident that caused life-threatening injuries. The case highlights advanced surgical capabilities in managing rare trauma conditions in the UAE.

The patient arrived at the emergency department with multiple fractures across his face, deep cuts, heavy bleeding, breathing difficulty, and partial facial nerve weakness. Doctors diagnosed extensive trauma involving the upper, middle, and lower regions of the face, a condition known as pan facial fractures, which account for only a small percentage of facial injuries.

The surgical team performed a detailed procedure using open reduction and internal fixation under general anaesthesia. The operation involved rebuilding the jaw, cheekbones, nasal structure, and eye sockets, while stabilising bones using titanium plates and screws. Specialists also addressed nerve positioning and restored facial alignment to improve both function and appearance.

According to the lead surgeon, the pan facial reconstruction required precise planning and coordination across multiple medical disciplines. Anaesthesia teams played a critical role in managing airway risks and ensuring patient stability throughout the long procedure.

Following surgery, the patient was monitored in intensive care for several days before gradually resuming oral intake and daily activity. After around two weeks in hospital, he was discharged in stable condition, having regained jaw function and facial structure.

The patient expressed gratitude to the medical team, stating that the treatment restored not only his physical appearance but also his confidence and quality of life. The successful pan facial reconstruction reflects the growing expertise in complex trauma care within Dubai’s healthcare sector.
