DUBAI: A Dubai apartment shelter opened by Indian businessman Yogesh Doshi is offering free accommodation to Indian nationals stranded in the UAE during escalating tensions across the Middle East.
Doshi, Chairman of Al Mizan Group, opened his entire residential building comprising 64 apartments to support travellers and residents unable to leave the country due to travel disruptions and uncertainty in the region. The Dubai apartment shelter has already accommodated more than 125 Indians, including several families with children.
The humanitarian initiative is being coordinated with the Indian People’s Forum UAE and the Consulate General of India in Dubai. The facility provides temporary housing along with basic necessities, including meals and essential services, at no cost to those staying in the building.
Many of the guests had been facing mounting difficulties after their hotel reservations expired and extensions were not possible. With limited travel options and ongoing alerts related to regional tensions, several families said the situation had become increasingly stressful.
“We were in a very difficult situation. Our hotel stay had ended and we had to leave, but there were no clear travel options,” said Mohit Vachhani, who was travelling with Riya Makadia, Paras Bhalodia and Grishma Bhalodia.
They said they learned about the Dubai apartment shelter through community contacts and immediately moved into the building.
“At that moment we were told about this accommodation and it was a huge relief for us,” the group said, noting that the support came at a crucial time.
Community leaders involved in the initiative say the goal is to ensure stranded travellers have a safe place to stay until normal travel operations resume. The Dubai apartment shelter continues to host families while coordinators work with authorities to assist them with onward travel arrangements once conditions stabilise.
