Citizens take over palace as Bangladesh PM leaves for ‘safer place’

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left the capital Dhaka in the face of mass protests demanding her resignation. According to some reports, Sheikh Hasina may have left for India. With over 300 deaths reported since the unrest began, the nation is in turmoil.

As news broke of the PM’s sudden departure, Bangladeshi protesters stormed the palace of Prime Minister in Dhaka. She has fled the mass demonstrations which demanding that she quit.
As a source close to the embattled leader said she had left her palace in the capital for a “safer place”. Hasina’s son urged the country’s security forces to block any takeover from her rule, while a senior advisor told agencies that her resignation was a “possibility” after being questioned as to whether she would quit.
“She wanted to record a speech, but she could not get an opportunity to do that,” said the source close to Hasina.
The army chief announced in a press conference that the army will take responsibility of the safety and peace. They are working to restore order and ensure the safety of the city’s residents. The army’s presence will aim to provide stability and keep the public safe during this uncertain time.
