RIYADH: In a move that aligns with the kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has officially announced that citizens and residents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are now allowed to perform Umrah at any time of the year, provided they apply through the official Nusuk application.
The updated policy removes seasonal limitations previously tied to Umrah pilgrimages, opening up greater access for millions across the GCC. The Ministry stated this reform aims to streamline religious tourism and offer a smoother, digital-first experience for those wishing to perform the pilgrimage. The Nusuk platform allows applicants to obtain Umrah permits, book transportation and accommodation, and receive real-time updates, all in one place.
This announcement is seen as a significant step under Saudi Arabia’s ongoing Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to boost tourism, diversify the economy, and position the kingdom as a religious and cultural hub. Officials emphasised that easing Umrah procedures for neighbouring Gulf countries promotes stronger regional unity and enhances spiritual accessibility.
The Ministry added that all pilgrims must comply with local regulations and health guidelines while using the Nusuk platform to ensure a safe and organised pilgrimage experience.
This reform is expected to lead to an increase in Umrah visitors from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar throughout the year.
