KUWAIT CITY: Imagine hopping on a train from Kuwait and riding all the way to the UAE — no airports, no traffic, just smooth rails across the desert. That’s the kind of future leaders from Etihad Rail and Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works are starting to talk about.

Etihad Rail’s CEO Shadi Malak and his team were in Kuwait this week to meet with Minister Dr. Noura Al-Mishaan, and the big topic was how both countries can work together on train networks that connect the GCC. Think cross-border travel, faster cargo movement, and even better business between Gulf neighbours.

Minister Al-Mishaan gave a big thumbs-up to the UAE-Oman Hafeet Rail project, calling it a great example of Gulf teamwork. She said Kuwait wants to learn from it and build something similar — with the goal of making the whole region more connected, both economically and geographically.

Officials from Kuwait also shared their plans for building a national railway that’s eco-friendly and tech-savvy. They’re looking to work closely with experts from around the region to make sure the system is top-quality from the start.

So, does this mean you could one day ride a train from Kuwait to Dubai? Not just yet — but this meeting was a big step in that direction. Both countries agree that smarter rail connections could really change how the Gulf moves, and they’re starting to lay the tracks for it.
