DUBAI: From thermal springs to vapour, Expo 2020 Dubai’s ‘Every Drop Counts’ self-guided journey offers visitors the opportunity to experience how different countries globally use the vital resource of water, as well as learn about sustainability innovations, as the World Expo marks Water Week.

Hop into the Sustainability District next with a visit to the Romania Pavilion, where the H2RO water bar offers a chance to taste a selection of mineral waters from Romania’s springs. While there, seize the opportunity to learn how the country is creating a delicate balance between nature and technology.

In the same district, the New Zealand Pavilion presents a learning experience for visitors as they acquaint themselves with the story of the Whanganui River. The country’s third-longest river is the world’s only body of water with legal personhood, meaning it can be represented in court and has two guardians to speak on its behalf.

Next door, innovation is at the forefront of the Netherlands Pavilion. A miniature world with its own climate system, the pavilion is brimming with sustainable solutions, including a technology that harvests water through the air, epitomising the pavilion’s ethos of ‘out-of-the-box creativity’.

A similar concept of extracting water vapour from the air is used at the nearby Czech Republic Pavilion, which illustrates how fertile land can be created in the barren conditions of the desert – a feat of technology that uses solar energy and Czech innovations.

Jumping to South America, the Brazil Pavilion, also in the Sustainability District, offers visitors a chance to dip their feet into the Amazon basin while taking in the sights, sounds and scents of the country’s riverside areas.

The Hungary Pavilion, in Jubilee, offers an introduction to the ‘Land of Waters’, which is home to more than 1,300 thermal springs. An interactive exhibition showcases the country’s unique water resources, curative waters, bathing culture and balneology, while the Aqua Bar presents a range of the country’s consumable mineral waters.

This water journey is incomplete without a stop at Surreal, the mesmerising Expo 2020 water feature that combines music, water and fire, as well as taking a moment to fill up a reusable water bottle at the special ‘Letter to Water’ fountains, en route to the Guinea Pavilion in the Sustainability District. A co-creation hub that aims to come up with solutions relating to water management and preservation, the West African nation’s pavilion gives visitors the power to change the flow of a waterfall experience.

The trail comes to an end at the Fiji Pavilion in the Opportunity District, which offers insights into rising sea levels and presents an opportunity for visitors to experience how Fiji has become a leader and advocate in climate change.

The self-guided ‘Every Drop Counts’ visitor journey is accessible via the Expo 2020 Dubai app. Water Week at Expo 2020 Dubai – the last of 10 Theme Weeks that form a key part of the Programme for People and Planet – will explore how humankind can preserve this finite life-sustaining resource and share best practices that will ensure clean and safe water for all.
