Dubai International named world’s busiest international airport for 10th consecutive year

Dubai: The Airports Council International (ACI) has revealed the preliminary top 10 busiest airports worldwide for 2023, reflecting significant changes driven by the resurgence of international air travel. Dubai International (DXB) maintained its status as the busiest international airport for the 10th consecutive year.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, expressed pride in DXB’s achievement, highlighting its continuous efforts to enhance the airport experience and broaden connectivity. He emphasized the collaborative efforts within Dubai’s aviation community and tourism sectors that contributed to this milestone.

Looking forward, Griffiths reiterated DXB’s commitment to maintaining its leading position through collaboration and innovation, ensuring excellence across all aspects of passenger travel.

ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira noted the global air travel trends in 2023, attributing growth to factors such as China’s reopening and increasing travel preferences despite economic conditions. While US airports remained prominent, Dubai International Airport rose to the second position, with Tokyo Haneda International Airport also making significant progress.

Cargo transportation remained crucial for global commerce, with Hong Kong International Airport leading, followed by Memphis International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Doha International Airport re-entered the top 10, showcasing growth despite challenges.

The rankings underscored the vital role of airports in global connectivity, commerce, and economic development. ACI World pledged continued advocacy for airports worldwide, leveraging its extensive data to ensure accurate and reliable rankings.

Based on data from over 2,600 airports globally, ACI World remains a leading authority on airport travel demand, providing valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of global travel.
