Sharjah Airport welcomes over 4.2 million passengers in first quarter of 2024

Sharjah: In the first quarter of 2024, Sharjah Airport welcomed over 4.2 million passengers and handled 26,473 flights, transporting over 42,000 tons of cargo. This has strengthened its regional standing and improved services for travelers, benefiting tourism and the economy in Sharjah.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), highlighted the airport’s growth, with a 10% increase in passenger numbers compared to last year. Efforts by SAA and other entities at Sharjah Airport aim to rank among the top 5 regional airports, ensuring safe travel and leading services.

Expecting continued growth, Al Midfa mentioned ongoing expansion projects aiming to increase the airport’s capacity to 25 million passengers annually by 2027.

He credited Sharjah Airport’s progress to a long-term plan involving public and private sector partnerships, enhancing competitiveness and operational performance. This includes upgrading infrastructure, facilities, and technology, implementing smart solutions for efficient travel procedures, and expanding global connectivity.

Statistics showed March as the busiest month with 9,127 flights and the highest cargo volume of 17.7 thousand tons. January recorded the highest passenger traffic, totaling 1,444,525 passengers.
